Episode +7—Remastered Paper Dolls
Every once in a while, someone on U2 Twitter will say, “Hey, what if we made an Adam Clayton sculpture out of mashed potatoes?” or “I wish I had a painting of Edge playing Dance Dance Revolution,” or “Wouldn’t it be great if we had U2 paper dolls?” And I have to tell them I already did all of those things a stupid amount of time ago. Like, almost 20 years ago.
How dare they not remember?!
It is for the benefit of those people, some of whom were not even born when I took over Achtoon Baby on AtU2, that I would like to present a bigger, better, remastered version of one of my favorite cartoons. Yes, it’s my U2 paper dolls, and we’re looking at post-Elevation/pre-Vertigo U2 here.
These paper dolls first appeared in Episode -72 as part of my “Super Activity Fun Pack,” from May 2004. Back then I was confined to AtU2’s tiny 500x500px box. It was so small that I had to leave out one Adam outfit, which is making its world premiere in this version! It’s right underneath the Adam doll.
To make my much larger remaster happen, I had to locate the originals (I have a few unorganized boxes of this stuff). They were drawn/painted on cheap computer paper, and I decided to retain its now slightly off-white color and some of my stray marks. I scanned the originals using my much better scanner and redid everything from scratch. I added the text and even rewrote some of it to make it funnier. I hope you enjoyed this wacked-out creation! —Kelly
