Episode +9—Surrender, Bono

When I arrived at my spacious office high atop Achtoon Tower this morning, I found a mysterious, smoldering package waiting for me on my desk. Wrapped in metallic gold paper that had seen better days, its return address said THE BEYOND.

"PJ! Someone sent us actual fan mail!" I yelled, and my partner in U2 crime was at my side in seconds. As we opened the package, a reek of sulfur, smoke, and high-end cosmetics greeted us, along with the following note:

I lifted the book from the box. "Obviously we're doing this."

Running a finger across the memoir's glossy cover, PJ said, "No question about it,"

But when we opened the book, we were distressed to discover a mere handful of burnt and rapidly-deteriorating fragments and illustrations, all of which we will share with you now in the hopes of gaining (if not AtU2-caliber page views) maybe one or two new readers.—Kelly

Graphic design and MacPhisto text by PJ. Illustrations and introduction by Kelly. Paintings were based on screen shots from U2’s “Lemon" video, and a fire filter was added. Prints of these and other U2 paintings are available here.

Tip: if you want to draw in the style of Mr. MacPhisto/Bono, try using your non-dominant hand. Works like a charm!
